May 31, 2016 01:51PM ● By Finn Mc Farland
Pentangle Arts, BarnArts, and Northern Stage are offering theater camps for area kids and teens. They’ll be immersed in music, dance, and acting classes to prepare for public performances.

Directed by Sharon Groblicki and Nancy Boymer with musical director Bob Merrill, Pentangle’s Summer Stock Performing Arts Camp will feature musical scenes from The Fantasticks, The Wizard of Oz, and The Sound of Music.  The theme is “Children in Featured Broadway Roles.” Classes are for children ages 8 to 13 and will culminate in a final performance at the Woodstock Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, July 30th at 1pm. The one-week camp begins on July 25th and ends on July 29th.

BarnArts will offer its fifth annual Youth Summer Theater Program featuring a three-week camp from July 18th to August 7th, with the final performance weekend from August 7th though 9th. During the camp, youth will prepare for the production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, which will include professional staging, costuming, music, and choreography. The final performances will take place at the Barnard Town Hall.

Northern Stage in White River Junction will offer four weeklong camps for youth this summer. From July 11th  to 15th, children ages 6 to 8 can participate in “Fun with Fairy Tales” to engage their imagination, learn about classic fairy tales, and even create their own tale to perform on Friday, July 15th at 3:30pm. Youth ages 9 to 11 can participate in “Musical Theater 101” to develop their acting and musical talents. A final performance will be held at 11:30am on Friday, July 15th. The second week of camps, July 18th to 22nd, will offer “Once Upon a Time . . .” for youth ages 6 to 8 and “Disney Musicals” for those 9 to 11 years old. Final performances will be held on Friday, July 22nd at Northern Stage.
