Kick-off Event for The Christmas Revels: A Nordic Celebration of the Winter Solstice
As fall comes knocking, this year’s 43rd Christmas Revels season
kicks off with a free concert lecture, potluck, and Nordic traditions community dance with live music. This event is free, for all ages and open to the public. Everyone is invited!
On Sunday, September 24, join Revels North at the East Thetford Pavilion as they kick off the season for this year’s Nordic themed Christmas Revels with a concert lecture, potluck, and a community dance. Christmas Revels guest artist, lydia ievins, a Swedish traditional music scholar and Nyckelharpa player, will be leading the concert and lecture. Also joining us is Jennifer Turbes, a local teacher of the Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle. At 5:15 p.m., festivities continue with a Nordic-themed potluck— everyone is encouraged to bring a Nordic dish to share! A Nordic traditions community dance, with music led by lydia, Jennifer, and guests, starts at 6:00 p.m.
This special event is a chance for the public to get acquainted with the all-ages cast of this year’s Christmas Revels and its Nordic theme. On stage December 14-17 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hanover NH, a young girl in search of her heritage is drawn into the mystical tales of her ancestors in this Nordic celebration of the season!
Tickets to the show are currently available at revelsnorth.org, and at hop.dartmouth.edu.
The Christmas Revels Kickoff is just the first of a number of events throughout the fall that
connect to the lively and multi-faceted theme of this year’s show. For information about upcoming events, visit revelsnorth.org.
