Miss Match: From Pixels to Paint
The “Miss Match – Pixels to Paint: Transforming photos to paintings “exhibit will be at the Norwich Public Library from May 4 to June 30, 2018. NatEli’s photos are transformed into paintings in many mediums and styles by Norwich artist Becky Cook. The exhibit opens Thursday, May 3 from 6 - 8 pm. The artists and the Norwich Library invite the public to meet the photographer and painter and see their exhibit. At 6:30 p.m., Becky Cook will talk about the process of transforming photos to painting for this exhibit. NatEli fell in love with photography in college, learning to develop and print black & white negatives. Working in a photography studio was her graduate study. She took photos constantly, developing her film wherever she could. (She still has memories of developing large prints in a bathtub.) Most of her photos are now taken with digital cameras, although her 35mm Pentax SLR is still at hand. The exhibit is a collaboration between the photographer, NatEli and the painter, Becky Cook. As a plein air artist, Becky often begins a painting outdoors and then finishes the painting in her studio using reference photos she has taken. Becky had occasionally painted from NatEli’s photos. Seeing the results, the idea for this exhibit was born. Becky remarked, “It’s been fun to develop different ideas in response to NatEli’s photos, sometimes in a playful manner, but not always.” As an emerging artist in the Upper Valley, Becky has been exhibiting her landscapes and abstracts in group exhibits for 3 years. She paints in oil, pastel, encaustic (hot wax), and watercolor. There are examples of each medium in the exhibit. The Norwich Public Library is at located at 368 Main Street, Norwich, Vermont. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Artworks are for sale through the artists. 15% of the proceeds of sales will be donated to the library.
